Porsche Designers Help Create New Space Fighter for the Star Wars Universe

The big release of the new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie is scheduled for December 20. And a little later, but before the end of this month, deliveries of the first supercars of the new model Porsche Taycan will begin. In honor of these two events, Porsche and Lucasfilm have released a documentary about the designers' collaboration on the Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus starfighter, inspired by the stylish Taycan.

In fact, it was Lucasfilm who invited the designers from Porsche to help them design the appearance of the new starfighter. If earlier the heroes of Star Wars flew the famous X-Wing, standard army unpretentious vehicles, then in the new film the vehicle is also new. This is an exclusive, expensive ship, like a sports car - but for flights in the atmosphere and space.

The terms of reference indicated that the fighter should have two entrances in front and a large rear door, a control compartment for two pilots and a cockpit for at least five crew members. Therefore, contrary to the canons of the saga, the designers decided to make the car flat and thin, rather than tall and narrow. The air intakes and the silhouette of the sloping roof are directly copied from the 2020 Porsche Taycan.
