The idea of using a magnetic field as a means of cooling a substance has been known for a long time, but specialists from the French company Cooltech Applications managed to translate it into household "hardware".
The operation of the cooling system of an unusual refrigerator is based on the so-called magnetocaloric effect, in which the temperature of the material can change under the influence of a magnetic field. For this, it is subjected to cyclic magnetization and demagnetization. Next, a coolant is pumped through the cooled material, transferring heat from the inside of the refrigerator to the outside.
The new refrigerator is very economical. The fact is that the operation of the compressor system of a conventional refrigerator accounts for up to half of all the energy it consumes. It is also worth adding to this the natural noise from its work and vibration. The harm of gaseous refrigerants to the environment is also known. The influence of the magnetic field is minimal. It is commensurate with the effect of the magnets that we "mold" on the refrigerator.
The first commercial refrigerator, the MRS400, has 400 watts of power, allowing it to keep temperatures within the recommended storage levels of 2 to 5 ° C. In the future, it is possible to create industrial cooling systems.
