Color-changing helmet warns of head injuries

It's no secret that head injuries are dangerous. And those that are not diagnosed in time can be extremely ominous. A special helmet, which changes color upon impact, can help in timely diagnosis. It was developed by a group of scientists from the University of Pennsylvania.

Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have created a helmet from a special polymer. It changes color depending on the force of the blow. The secret is to use holographic lithography to create photonic crystals that change color when deformed. Of course, the creation of these crystals is a laborious process, but the researchers have developed a technique that will make it possible to mass-produce such helmets.

The invented helmet can certainly become indispensable in hockey, motorcycle racing and other traumatic sports.
