Microsoft releases new Surface Go to compete with iPad

When Apple released its entry-level iPad model in March, analysts were confident that Microsoft's response would not be long in coming. And so he appeared. The Surface Go tablet presented by the company is the smallest and cheapest in the entire lineup. But at the same time, Microsoft managed to maintain support for the key functionality of Windows 10, although you can immediately forget about working with serious resource-intensive applications.

The heart of the new tablet is the old and rather slow dual-core Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor, which comes with just 4GB of RAM. Not bad for a tablet, but not enough for a normal workstation, so there is the possibility of expanding memory, including replacing the base drive with a 64 GB version. For a fee, of course, but a 10-inch display with a resolution of 1800 × 1200 pixels is not upgradeable.

But the Surface Go model is noticeably lighter and smaller than its older brother Pro, it weighs only 522 grams and fits more comfortably in a student bag than a professional tablet or laptop. Microsoft assured that they demanded from Intel to optimize the processor to work with Windows and Office, which gives us up to 9 hours of battery life.

To connect peripherals, the USB-C port is used, for which support for all accessories of the Surface family is declared. For an extra charge, you'll have a Surface Pen ($ 99.99), Surface Go Type Cover ($ 99.99), and Surface Mobile Mouse ($ 34.99). The main factor that interests everyone: the Surface Go will be priced at just $ 399. The pre-order is already open today, the new product will be on sale from August 2.
